Sophie is inspired by life around her and thus has heavily focused on realism within the realm of nature. Through her observations she noticed the boundless array of natural patterns, and was inspired to create a variety of studies of flora and fauna, including fossils, flowers and turtle shells. In addition to an attraction to natural patterns, Sophie has always been infatuated with the gorgeous effect of light traveling through glass. Throughout her career, she has occasionally revisited the concept of painting glass, from her earliest paintings, to exercises done in university classes. In the time that Sophie wasn’t painting, she made jewelry from glass and ceramic beads. While creative endeavor started off as a side hobby, she discovered her love for repetition, pattern and color was utilized in a different way. In recent months, Sophie has begun painting her glass beads as a continued exploration in light, color and pattern.
